A project «European traditional culture — J. S. Bach. Johannespassion»
There was established a tradition to perform the Passions, and Bach’s "Johannpassion" between them, in Catholic and Protestant churches during the period of four weeks before Easter. This tradition still exists. Although this masterpiece was performed also in Russia and St Petersburg, it happened very rarely and usually in a wrong time period. Neither was it played on historical instruments in this town.
We present the chamber performance of "Johannespassion". You will hear it played in historic manner, with historical instruments such as lute, viola da gamba, oboe da caccia, viola d’amore etc.
