The exhibition presents masterpieces from two museums of theatre in Russia - The Bachrushin Central State Theatre Museum (Moscow) and Saint - Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music. The visitors will see famous portraits of Maria Svina, Pelageya Strepetova, Fyodor Shalyapin, Vsevolod Meyerhold, Vazlav Niginsky, Anna Pavlova, Alisa Koonen, costume designs created by Dobyginsky, Bilibin, Sapunov, Sudeikin, Kalmakov, Malevich, Shkolnik, Kulbin, Exter and other participants of the theatre reform which took place at the beginning of the 20th century.

The organizers of the exhibition chose 10 legends from the rich and varied history of theatre. Among them there are legendry roles such as Knyaz Mishkin performed by Innokentiy Smoktunovsky, legendry actors such as Praskovia Gemchugova, Vera Komissargevskaya, Fyodor Shalyapin, and performances such as "Masquerade" directed by Vsevolod Meyerhold, "Princess Turandot" by E. Vahtangov. There are also cabarets "Brodyachaya sobaka" and "Prival komediantov" with their stories, now legend, about the theatre-life of Saint-Petersburg, and museum exhibits, that have their own famous history and have became legends of the museum collection. One will be able to admire the costume of Columbine created by Sergey Sydeikin for his wife and actress Glebova - Sudeikina. She was dressed in this costume while performing in the cabaret "Prival Komediantov". Later on Anna Achmatova would write "The Poem without a hero" where the actress would be listed amongst the names of "columbines of the 1920's". The costume was taken away to Paris after The Soviet Revolution and then returned to Russia again. Now it is on show at the exhibition's display in the Fontanka House, where Akhmatova lived and composed "The Poem without a hero".

The history of the Saint-Petersburg Museum of Theatre and Music dates back to 1908 when the First Theatre Exhibition was organized. It contained the exhibits from several private collections. This exhibition initiated the foundation of theatre museums in Moscow and then in Saint-Petersburg. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Museum the collaborators of the museum remember first collectors of the theatre antiques and commemorate them in joining them as a part of the exhibition. The message left by St. Petersburg collector Ivan Gorbunov in the album of Alexey Bachrushin "Do not tell with sadness "They are no more" but be grateful that "They were"" expresses the main theme of the exhibition.

Video installations will be used in conjunction with exhibits at the exhibition.
