 The F. I. Chaliapin Museum in his former apartments is open on April 14, 2010 after two year period of reconstruction (2B Graftio St., Petrogradskaya metro station, phone 234 10 56).
The museum presents «An exhibition of the unique portrait», the portrait of Shalyapin by B. Grigoriev. The famous theatre designer and artist created his baroque and ambiguous portrait, simultaneously monumental and undoing any monumentality, in 1918. His contemporaries mentioned the unusual likeness of the artist and his model. Sergey Radlov says that «…both of them are living pictures of the Russian talent: both have the huge dimensions, the typically Russian white outlook and the very character of their fortune is quite similar. They are the natural spontaneous talents».
In the newly open Shaliapin museum amateurs of opera will be able to hear traditional concert programs featuring soloists of the Academy of the young singers (Mariinsky theatre) and Mikhailovsky theatre, the modern composers and musicians and to participate in educational programs created in cooperation with «Zazerkalie» theatre.
