Exhibition Proposals:

RUSSIAN IMPERIAL THEATRE (ABOUT 300 ITEMS)
The exhibition tells about the stages of the development of ballet in Russia during almost two centuries, about major choreographers and dancers. The principal part of the exhibition is dedicated to the creative work of Marius Petipa, in whose ballets M.Surovschikova-Petipa, O.Preobrazhenskaya, M.Kshesinskaya, V.Trefilova, А.Gorsky and others starred. Of exceptional interest are the costumes from the Imperial Theatre Wardrobe, made after the designs by E.Ponomarev and I.Vsevolozhsky for the first productions of the famous Tchaikovsky's ballets as well as the ballets by C.Puni, L.Minkus and etc. The exhibition also narrates about the creative work of Fokine, Pavlova, Nijinsky, Karsavina, Spesivtseva on the Imperial State. STARS OF RUSSIAN BALLET. FROM ANNA PAVLOVA TO RUDOLF NUREYEV (about 300 exhibits).
The exhibition is dedicated to the stars of Russian ballet of 20 c. - from the famous Italian dancers, performing in Russia (P.Legnani, V.Zucchi, C.Brianza), and the celebrated Fokine, Pavlova, Nijinsky, Karsavina, Spesivtseva - to the stars of the Soviet and modern time: Ulanova Semyonova, N.Dudinskaya, K.Sergeyev, I.Kolpakova, A.Osipenko, N.Makarova, M.Baryshnikov, R.Nureyev. Exhibition items - paintings, sculptures, photos, stage costumes, set models and designs. The exhibition catalogue is available.

POLYPHONY FROM KAZIMIR MALEVICH TO TATIANA BRUINI (about 200 exhibits).
At the exhibition the works of the key figures of Russian avant-garde of the first third of the 20 c. K.Malevich, V.Tatlin, S.Eisenstein, A.Tyshler, N.Akimov are presented alongside the names which do not ring the bell to the wide audience. Really innovative are the works of Vladimir Boriskevich who is practically unknown even in Russia. It is the first time when the full set of designs by Tatiana Bruni to the ballet Bolt by Shostakovich is presented. Those works will introduce the audience to the most interesting event of 1920-s art - propaganda of he new Soviet was of life. Avant-garde is multifaceted and diverse, every personality of it has its own voice. Thus the combination of their voices gave the name of the exhibition - Polyphony. IMPERIAL THEATRE DESIGNERS (about 200 items).
The exhibition presents the principal stages of the development of set design in Russia since mid-18 to the beginning of the 20 c.. The following .artists are presenyed: Valeriani, Bibbienna, Gonzago, Canoppi, Rollet, Shishkov, Lambin, Korovin, Golovin. Of exceptional interest are the costumes from the Imperial Theatre Wardrobe.

THE WORLD OF RUSSIAN OPERA (about 350 exhibits).
From the historical aspect the exhibition tells about the creators of the vocal traditions of Russian opera - major Russian composers and singers. Exhibition items include stage costumes of great Russian singers F.Chaliapin, N.Figner, I.Ershov, L.Sobinov, M.Slavina, A.Nezhdanova, made after designs by K.Korovin, A.Golovin, M.Vrubel and other well-known artists of 19 - 20 cc. theatre; paintings, sculptures, photos, memorabilia. The expressiveness of the exhibits comes from the fairy-tale and historical nature of the stories of the majority of Russian operas.

THE DIAGHILEV BALLETS (about 200 exhibits).
The exhibition highlights the creative activities of the artists of the Russian seasons, to whom we owe the evergreen fame of Russian ballet abroad, - A.Pavlova, V.Nijinsky, T.Karsavina, M.Fokine, O.Spesivtseva and others. Among the exhibits there are many set and costume designs by the rtists of Diaghilev's circle - L.Bakst, A.Benois, A.Golovin, B.Anisfeld, N.Roerich, as well as stage costumes, made after their designs for the Russian Ballets. THE BEAUTIES OF RUSSIAN THEATRE (about 200 exhibits).
The exhibition narrates about the actresses, female singers and dancers of Russian stage, who in different times happened to be also "the law-givers" of fashion for the high society. The principle characters of the exhibition - M.Savina, A.Vyaltseva, V.Komissarzhevskaya, E.Roschina-Insarova, A.Pavlova, M.Kshesinskaya.

THEATRE AND FASHION (about 200 exhibits).
Two main aspects of the exhibition:

  1. The influence of actual fashion and historical Russian costume on theatre costumes (exhibits - old prints, folk drawings, fashion magazine and authentic theatre costumes).
  2. The influence of theatre costume on the creation of new trends in fashion clothes design since mid-19 c. (exhibits-theatre designs, photos of actors in roles, stage and actual costumes).
