The Exhibition "Fyodor Chaliapin in Kazan" is Dedicated to the 135th Anniversary of Birth of the singer.
The exhibition is held in cooperation with The Literary-Memorial Museum of A.M.Gorky

The unique collection of the F. Chaliapin Apartment Museum is supplemented with the objects from The Literary-Memorial Museum of A.M.Gorky in Kazan. Visitors of the exhibition in Saint-Petersburg will know interesting facts from the biography of the singer. The famous collection of photos with views of Kazan where Chaliapin was born and started his career is presented. The Kazan views Chaliapin chose himself when he came back to his native city in 1912 already being world-famous singer. In the photos visitors will see the house in Suchonaya Sloboda where Chaliapin was born, parochial college where he sang in the choir, Zemstvo (town council) where the artist worked as a clerk followed the dictates of his father. Young Chaliapin grew up around poor houses served as shelters for craftsmen and the urban poor. The images from his childhood helped him a lot afterwards in creation of truly characters in operas such as Yeryomka in the opera "The Power of the Fiend" by A.Serov.
The exposition presents photo portraits of people who took an important role in Chaliapin’s career and life such as his first teacher, entrepreneur and many others who supported the talent of the young singer.
Visitors will also see archive documents from the childhood of the singer, the education period to the best years of his creative work. Carefully maintained by the workers of the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan (The Literary-Memorial Museum of A.M.Gorky) these documents are not only the part Chaliapin’s biography but also contain interesting historic material of that period of time.
The National Museum in Kazan supplemented the exhibition with some personal belongings from the period of Chaliapin’s work in the main imperial theater. The official ceremony of the opening of the exhibition is followed by the concert of chamber music performed by Milyausha Tamindarova (mezzo soprano) and Vitaly Charisov (guitar).
