March 13, 2009. The new permanent exhibition «Theatre legends of St Petersburg» has been opened in the former office of the Imperial theatres board, now the main building of the Museum of Theatre and Music at 6 Ostrovsky Sq.

Three exhibitions are presented in the renovated halls:

«Theatre of the Silver Age», «Theatre vanguard of 1920s and 1930s» and «The Soviet theatre behind the Iron Curtain». The unique museum items tell us about creations of famous actors, who played great part in reforms and innovations of Russian theatre in the first half of 20th century: V. Meyerkhold, M. Fokin, A. Pavlova, V. Nizhinsky, V. Komissarzhevskaya, F. Lopukhov, G. Balanchin, N. Akimov and many others.

The new museum design depicts theatre images of the «World of Art» group, the vanguard and the Socialist realism. The new exhibition widely uses modern technologies that help to get visitors into the historic context and share the interactive game of museum-and theatre.
